Job Description - HVAC Technician

Our client in New Zealand is seeking a HVAC technician to complete high quality HVAC work for a wide range of projects whilst having a positive attitude and the client in mind.

Primary Responsibilities

Health and Safety • Think safe. Work safe.

  • Use best practice health and safety tools (e.g. Assura) and practices as part of your normal working day (e.g. plant and equipment checks).
  • Work with our health and safety policies and practices to keep our workplace safe for everyone.
  • Take care of your own health and safety and for the health and safety of others at work.
  • Be proactive. Let us know if you are aware of any workplace hazard, incident, accident, injury or near miss while travelling to site or on site.
  • Comply with all industry standards, best practices, safety policies and procedures.

HVAC Works

  • Ensure all work is undertaken to a high standard, compliant, efficient, and safe
  • Carry out assigned work including, new projects, installations, repairs, fault finding and testing.
  • Commissioning and testing of installations.
  • Complete work within regulations
  • Accurate and timely completion of paperwork.

Client/Job Management

  • Complete tasks as per the job sheet and to the client’s requirements.
  • Clearly communicate with clients, and your supervisor ensuring they are kept up to date.
  • Accurately assess and prioritise time and resources required to complete the job within allocated timeframes.
  • Use your knowledge and experience to support and coach your colleagues.
  • Supervise apprentices by providing instruction and practical training on site.
  • Contribute constructively to toolbox and team meetings.

Admin and paperwork

  • Complete all forms and paperwork promptly, clearly, and accurately including Timesheets, JSA’s etc.
  • Communicate any issues or if repairs are required as soon as possible.
  • Keep your work van well stocked, clean, tidy, and well maintained including making sure it has a current WOF, Registration and RUC.

Knowledge and Skills

HVAC – Working knowledge of HVAC standards and systems.

Health and Safety - strong working knowledge of Health and Safety in the NZ electrical industry.

  • Communicate – Keep people up to date. Be highly professional and respectful. Proactively think about how you communicate with people to get the best outcome. Remain levelheaded. Work together. Be clear and check that you’ve been understood.
  • Be prepared and organised – Keep focused. Be aware of how long tasks take and allocate your time efficiently. Prioritise and schedule to get your work done. Adjust to changing tasks and jobs during your working day.
  • Problem solve – Identify and understand an issue or problem first. Use relevant information to inform your thinking. Consider risk, likely consequences, and the client. Your actions are practical and logical.

Experience

  • Commercial HVAC work – competently and independently deliver general commercial HVAC works for clients.
