There are opportunities for cooks/kitchen attendants to join our fantastic Food and Beverage department for Winter 2024. The Whakapapa whanau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation. Mo te tunga | About the role  Requirements for this role include a basic understanding of the kitchen as a whole, as you will be assisting the Chef in doing food prep, basic sandwich construction and operating deep fryers. You will be asked to help out in the café outlet wherever needed to help control business levels. The nitty gritty bits include: Ensure quality standards are maintained with respect to food presentation and content. Apply knowledge of hygiene and safety in preparation, presentation and storage of food in accordance with relevant legislation. Ensure kitchen areas are prepared, cleared and maintained for food preparation and storage in accordance with departmental and industry guidelines. Ensure all rubbish and recycling is removed from storage locations to disposal areas and distributed correctly. Provide an efficient and professional service to all customers both internal and external. Ensure food service is in accordance with customer order in a manner and timeframe that optimises service quality. Assist in the transportation of café product as required. Help all your fellow team members whenever possible. Enjoy & take pride in what you do.To be successful in this team you will have: Cook: two years cooking experience (Desirable). Kitchen Attendant: A passion for food and one year experience working in a kitchen (Desirable). Ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of people. Respond in a positive and proactive manner to feedback from supervisors/ managers. Maintain an approachable and co-operative persona with co-workers and customers, both internal and external. Commitment to a strong customer service ethic. Punctual and reliable. High energy levels.  Gear up for the ultimate work adventure at Whakapapa.
