By providing this foundation to success, we reduce reoffending and keep our communities safer.As an Instructor in the Distribution Centre (P119) at Rimutaka Men's Prison, you will be working as part of a tight knit team, supporting and taking guidance from experienced Instructors, while providing supervision and practical training within the canteen and distribution centre. You will oversee the processing and receiving of goods, data management, and distribution of goods, while also providing training to people in prison with the aim to provide a platform of good working habits for them to take forward to the future.This role involves working alongside stakeholders across the Lower North Island Prisons as well as externally, therefore the development of effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders is key.Instructors have the same classification as Corrections Officers and, as such, complete the same initial training courses. This will involve on-site training as well as residential training at our National Learning Centre in Upper Hutt, Wellington, to focus on the custodial elements of the position (as required).The hours of work will be on a standard shift basis of 80 hours per fortnight, Monday to Friday, 0730hrs – 1530hrs.Working public holidays, along with the possibility of some overtime may be required.This rewarding position will suit someone who:Has excellent communication & interpersonal skillsPossesses, or is willing to achieve NZQA 4098 assessor qualificationIs computer literate and has experience using Cobra, SAP & Microsoft documents, particularly ExcelIs able to fulfil the physical demands of the roleHas excellent time management skills and a record of reliabilityIs committed to workplace health & safetyHas previous experience working with people in voluntary segregation unitsHas a class two licenseWhere applicable, the later stages of the recruitment process involve pre-employment checks including a drug test, medical test, physical assessment and police vetting. Please note – this Criminal History Check is exempt from the Clean Slate Act.
