We enjoy spot lunches, and great Christmas get-togethers and encourage and offer opportunities to current employees to grow and develop their skills - sometimes even moving around the country to another yard!Key responsibilities:This position involves duties related to operating excavators but not limited to:Receiving and sorting material, ensuring handling is kept to a minimum. Ensure that the work area is safe and ready for cutting. This includes cleaning the area, removing any flammable materials, and setting up protective barriers.Use the right type of cutting equipment for the job, including the type of oxy-fuel gas, nozzle size, and other variables.Set up and calibrate the cutting equipment, including checking gas pressures, adjusting the nozzle, and ensuring proper ventilation.Use the cutting equipment to cut scrap metal according to the required specifications. This includes adjusting the flame temperature and cutting speed as needed.Separate different types of metals and materials by identifying and separating ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Selecting, cleaning and preparing metal stockCutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machinesShaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammeringAligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instrumentsJoining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and rivetingExamining welds for width of bead, penetration and precisionFinishing products by cleaning, polishing, filing and bathing in acidic solutionsCleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiselling and grinding Fabricates and repairs metal products using various welding techniques.Sort the scrap metal according to size, type, and condition for further processing and recycling. Regularly inspect and maintain the equipment to ensure it remains in good working order. This includes cleaning and replacing parts as needed.Follow all safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment. This includes wearing protective gear, using safety equipment such as goggles and gloves, and following proper ventilation procedures. Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to ensure that work is completed on time and to the required standards.Perform any other tasks at the employer's discretion.Skills, Knowledge and Experience:1+ year useful industry experience in technical or vocational training.Familiarity with equipment and associated cutting tools.Some experience working in a workshop, construction site, or recycling factory OR qualification is preferred but not compulsoryPhysically fit with the ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 20kg)Must be able to pass a drug test.Qualifications:A trade certificate in fitting, welding and/ or maintenance is desirable but not essentialLocation: The Oxy Cutter/ Welder may be required to work in several locations including, Taupo, Hamilton.This role will be a permanent and full-time job.A minimum of 30 hours of work are guaranteed. Please note that our commitment to our team's safety on the job means that everyone undergoes a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.If you are a reliable and experienced Oxy Cutter/Welder, APPLY NOW with your current CV.
