GNS Science is Aotearoa New Zealand's leading authority on earth science, energy, and natural hazards and risk research.We generate scientific knowledge and innovation that enables people to thrive on a changing and challenging planet.Our geoscience and materials science expertise unlocks better economic, environmental, and social outcomes for local and global partners, customers, and communities.We enable science-backed decision making about the things that matter most.Protecting people and economies from the shock of destructive natural hazard events.Harnessing natural resources for a sustainable energy future.Keeping property and infrastructure safe and resilient in the face of geohazard events and the intensifying effects of a changing climate.GNS Science has a 150+ year history in geoscience research and consultancy.Today, we build on this legacy, sharing critical knowledge, innovative products, and essential services for a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous future.The roleThe GNS Science library provides our scientists with access to the information necessary for their research and consultancy activities, adding value to the world class science undertaken in the organisation.We also maintain the GNS Science Bibliographic Database, which is the most comprehensive index of New Zealand geoscience literature and backbone for research.We are looking for a Research Support Librarian (Bibliographic) to join the team, primarily to provide indexing services and back-up reference and research support service to scientists and staff.In this role you'll ensure published staff work is indexed for use as official references in other GNS Science databases, ensuring quality control and attention to detail throughout.You'll also liaise with scientists across GNS to manage the publications section of internal staff profiles and promoted on GNS' website.While indexing will be the primary focus of this role, some flexibility and adaptability will be required to meet the changing needs of the environment and library service.ResponsibilitiesIn this role you will:Monitor publication sources for material written by GNS staff, and in scope for the Bibliographic Database's coverage of New Zealand geoscience and Antarctica.Undertake specialised and detailed indexing of current material, including Consultancy reports, to increase the accessibility of material for scientists, following the established Library Service Level and indexing standards.Manage the Publication Section of the online Staff Profiles for staff, ensuring they are kept up to date, liaising with staff and the Research Office as necessary.Directly support science research by providing specialised literature search and reference services to all scientists and other staffProvide professional advice to internal clients to encourage efficient use of the Library service, including the print collections, e-journals, library databases available via the Intranet.About youWe are seeking someone who:Minimum of 5 years work in a Library as a qualified professionalIndexing or cataloguing experienceKnowledge of and experience of, and proficient in using databases and Library Management SystemsFocus on quality output, with attention to detail and accurate spellingDemonstrated excellence with searching techniquesDemonstrated analytical and problem-solving skillsInterpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of people at GNS ScienceAble to work independently and collaborate with other team membersInformation or Library studies degree/postgraduate qualificationWhy work for GNS Science?Our work helps New Zealanders understand and address climate change, find and use greener energy and better manage the impacts of natural disasters on their homes and communities.People come from all over the world to work for GNS Science.We foster a positive, collaborative culture, we invest in our people and provide a safe, diverse and inclusive workplace.
