Job Description - 1.0 Fte Term Grade 9 French Immersion Classroom Teacher

School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) is located in the southern Interior of British Columbia, Canada and serves the Lower Kootenay Band and the communities of Kaslo, Meadow Creek, Crawford Bay, Creston, Wynndel, Yahk, Nelson, Salmo, South Slocan, Winlaw, Slocan, and the surrounding rural areas. Our schools are dispersed geographically and range in size and composition:-13 elementary schools-1 middle school-1 K-10 school-4 secondary schools-2 K-12 schools-online learning and blended programs-an extensive array of program options, including Aboriginal Education, Late French Immersion, Outdoor Programs, and a strong International Program.The annual pay range for a full time teacher is $61,522 to $108,126, with placement on the range based on experience and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.Trafalgar Middle School has a vacancy for a 1.0 FTE Term Grade 9 French Immersion Classroom Teacher. The successful applicant for this position will be responsible for working in a pod-model with a partnering Grade 9 French Immersion teacher. The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering the Français langue and Sciences humaines curriculum to two groups of students while the partnering teacher will be responsible for les Maths and les Sciences.The awarded applicant will have recent successful experience working collaboratively with school staff, will be able to work closely with the school team, and will be knowledgeable and able to work appropriately with students who have learning challenges. The awarded applicant will be innovative, creative, and demonstrate understanding of the BC Ed Plan and the district directions. They will be a person who is continually striving to improve pedagogy in a changing educational environment. Qualifications:• Bachelor of Education (Middle or Secondary) with a degree/major/specialization or diploma in French (Immersion; Second Language; etc); • A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch; • Fluency in French (oral and written) is required for this specialized positionTeachers applying for this position must possess the following attributes:• Willingness to work closely with parents;• Capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues;• Excellent classroom management skills;• Knowledge of current instructional practices and curriculum, including the SD8 Inclusion Model;• Knowledge and active use of Shelley Moore framework;• Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills;• Recent, demonstrated successful experience in a middle or secondary school setting;• Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to be flexible;• Familiarity with social-emotional learning and trauma-informed practices;• Have a vision for creating an inclusive, dynamic, and engaging middle school shop program.The ideal candidate will be expected to:• Coordinate and deliver services for diverse learners;• Demonstrate ability to use differentiated instruction to meet the learning needs of diverse learners;• Implementing inclusion supports and recommendations in the IEP in the classroom• Participate in on-going professional development and develop a personal growth plan• Work in an atmosphere of collaboration with staff to build consistency and quality of programs• Communicate effectively with staff and parents• Be familiar with the BC Ed plan, school district board goals and school goals• Implement school wide strategies to support the school board's student expectations, school and class needs• Demonstrate knowledge of using technology to support student learningFor more information please contact Principal, Tim Mushumanski at ****** District 8 supports equity hiring for Indigenous applicants.*If you are experiencing any technical issues with your application process to contact Make A Future's customer service line as HR cannot upload or assist with these types of issues.
