Job Description - Advisor

  • Multiple Advisor positions available

  • Fixed term until end of June 2026

  • Based in Wellington

  • Midpoint of $80,848 dependent on experience

Ko tōu ake mahi - What you’ll do

The Government Services group is made up of four teams: Ministerial Correspondence, OIA Services, Parliamentary Advice and Coordination and Official Information Advisory.

As an Advisor, you’ll help shape the Ministry’s work by providing robust analysis, thoughtful advice, and practical support across a wide range of projects and programmes. This is a chance to work collaboratively with passionate colleagues and stakeholders, contribute to meaningful system improvements. If you’re someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys turning information into action, this role offers both challenge and purpose.

  • Provide technical advice that informs decision‑making and supports the delivery of Government and Ministry priorities.

  • Manage a diverse caseload of Government Services products, balancing competing deadlines with confidence and clarity.

  • Research, analyse, and synthesise information to produce clear advice and support for the wider Group.

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of machinery of government products and processes, working closely with Senior and Principal Advisors.

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Strong organisational capability, with the foresight, initiative, and discipline to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated experience using critical thinking and sound judgement to assess information, develop options, and provide well‑reasoned advice.

  • Experience managing multiple priorities effectively and producing high‑quality work under pressure.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to translate complex information for diverse audiences.

  • Well‑developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships.
