Animal Control Officers Wellington – Full time & Part time

A recent opportunity for an Animal Control Officer in our Wellington based Animal Control team has become available.  We are keen to speak to any experienced Animal Control Officers or someone who simply has a positive outgoing attitude who have experience liaising with members of the public, complainants, SPCA, NZ Police, DOC local Iwi.

About the role:

You will have interactions with owners of wandering stock and owners of canines from all walks of life and be responsible for investigating any animal welfare complaints, enforcing animal welfare laws, and educating the public on safe animal practices and much more in this high workload position, also including Bylaw Management.

Mandatory Requirements:

• You must consent to and be able to satisfy pre-employment checks to progress through the recruitment process. As a minimum these will include:
  • Driver Licence
  • Credit
  • Ministry of Justice Criminal History Check
• Must live in Wellington
• Must hold a current Green COA
• Full Clean New Zealand drivers’ licence and must be able to drive manual transmission
• Sound knowledge of animal management by-laws in NZ
• Display Honesty, Integrity, and Reliability
• Must be eligible to legally work in New Zealand
• Excellent command of the English language, Clear articulation of speech, written, and comprehension of the English language a must

Our Ideal Candidate:

• Be prepared to work rostered hours in recognition of the company being a 24/7 operation incl day and night shifts
• Animal handling certification
• First Aid Certificate
• NZ Certificate in Regulatory Compliance (Core Knowledge) (Level 3) preferrable
• Experience liaising with members of the public, complainants, SPCA, NZ Police, DOC local Iwi
• Intermediate computer skills are essential
• Strong investigation & documentation skills
• Ability to offer educational advice
• Display sound judgement and ability to make informed decisions quickly
• Forward thinker with a solid understanding of legislation
• Confidently work alone or in a team environment
• Can comply with company SOP’s and Health & Safety Regulations
