Bruce Pulman Park (BPP) is a world-class Sports and Recreation Park in Papakura, south Auckland, with facilities geared toward community excellence at all levels.  The Park is the home of state-of-the-art facilities, including a purpose-built gymnastics and trampoline facility, a multi-purpose indoor Arena, outdoor netball courts, sand-based and grass fields, cricket ovals, and a multi-use Teamsports building.  In addition, Pulman Lodge offers upscale sports teams and group accommodation.

About the role

We have a great opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join our team.  Reporting to the Finance Manager this role will support all financial, administrative, and clerical needs for the organisation to ensure the smooth operations of all financial processes. This role will act as the second-in-command to the Finance Manager and will be responsible for managing the finance function of the Park in the absence of the Finance Manager. The role includes managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions, as well as assisting the Finance Manager with month-end

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of the payroll systems and processes, providing accurate and timely payroll services for all employees and meeting business and legislative requirements. 
  • Advise the BPP Managers to ensure the team have a comprehensive understanding of all relevant aspects and functions of payroll.
  • Receive and process incoming invoices from suppliers. 
  • Monthly preparation of vendor reconciliations.
  • Ensure supplier queries are promptly resolved. 
  • Work closely with the BPP team to correctly code and submit invoices for approval via ApprovalMax, making sure the correct invoice approval flow is adhered to.
  • Ensure all customers invoices and statements are processed in Xero in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile Xero with the front of house software to ensure all customer invoices are captured.
  • Provide Weekly AR reports to track any outstanding invoices that needs urgent attention.
  • Work with BPP Management team monthly to follow and collect all the outstanding accounts.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with month end tasks including but not limited to doing accruals, prepayments, stock journal, and adjustment journals.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with tasks relating to year-end accounts where possible.
  • Provide support to the Finance Manager in collating information for the yearly external audit requests and requirements.
  • Provide any information requested by the CEO.

 Experience and Qualification

About you

We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role is preferred
  • Experience or familiarity with Xero, MS Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proactive and able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Is flexible and can adapt to changing work priorities
