Are you ready to be a part of how organisations are run at the highest level? We’re looking for a sharp, detail-savvy individual to support the Nelson City Council Governance team in promoting transparency, accountability, and excellence. This is a career starter role intended to set the foundation to support your career progression within the Governance sector.

About this role| Kō tēnei tūranga mahi

As our Assistant Governance Adviser, you’ll be the engine behind council meetings and governance processes - keeping everything running smoothly and professionally. If you’ve got a knack for organisation, a head for legislation, and a desire to make a real impact, this is your moment.

This role covers a broad and impactful range of responsibilities, including:

  • Delivering prompt, professional, and high-quality customer service
  • Owning end-to-end coordination of Public Forum meetings, including key stakeholder engagement
  • Preparing the Council Chamber for meetings, managing catering, and handling Elected Members’ mileage and reimbursement claims
  • Taking minutes for minor meetings and circulating decisions efficiently
  • Providing on-the-spot technical support during Council and Committee meetings
