The Department of Public Health, University of Otago Wellington (UOW) offers outstanding opportunities for postgraduate study and public health research.

The departments He Kāinga Oranga - Housing and Health Research Programme is an interdisciplinary research centre focusing on the impacts of housing conditions on the health, wellbeing and prosperity of people, whānau and communities. The interdisciplinary team researches a wide range of housing and health topics, which direct policy change and improve housing quality, with the ultimate goal of improving health outcomes for New Zealanders.

The role/Te mahi

As an Assistant Research Fellow on our Wellington campus you will support research on the health and wellbeing impacts of energy poverty and healthy housing interventions, led by Dr Kimberley O’Sullivan within He Kāinga Oranga / Housing and Health Research Programme and the New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities.

The key tasks of this role include:
• Data processing and management.
• Qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
• Liaison with a wide range of stakeholders and research participants.
• Overall administrative support for the project.
• Contribution to developing publications arising from the project.
• Literature searching and management.

This is a unique opportunity for a committed individual to work in an active research environment, undertaking a range of tasks contributing to day-to-day research work and working across iwi and community groups, government departments and research organisations.

The successful candidate will be well supported by a collegial and dynamic department and University.

Successful candidates will have:
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree, although a relevant postgraduate qualification with a research component is preferred.
• Excellent time management, self-direction, independence and organisational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work well with others in a team.
• An ability to learn new skills, take feedback and adhere to research protocols.
• Appreciation of the ethical responsibilities of the research team and the sensitivity and sovereignty of the information collected from participants.
• Strong communication (oral and written) skills.

This is a full-time (1 FTE), fixed term (1 year) position, located in Wellington.

The salary range for an Assistant Research Fellow is $58,341 to $78,531.
