The Performance, Risk & Assurance function plays a key role in supporting good governance, organisational resilience and service excellence. Working across the organisation, the team provides independent assurance, promotes continuous improvement, and helps ensure Comcare meets its regulatory, contractual and quality obligations. 

About this role  

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assurance Officer to join our Performance, Risk & Assurance team based in Christchurch. 

Reporting to the Director - Performance, Risk & Assurance, you will support the delivery of Comcare's assurance programme by undertaking internal audits, compliance reviews, quality improvement activities and assurance reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with audit, quality, risk or compliance experience who is passionate about continuous improvement and strengthening organisational performance. 

You will work closely with leaders and teams across the organisation to identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and controls, while helping ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation and contractual requirements. Your work will directly contribute to maintaining high-quality services and supporting positive outcomes for our clients and communities. 

What you’ll be doing 

• Support the planning and delivery of Comcare's risk-based assurance programme, including internal audits and compliance reviews.  

• Conduct audit planning, risk assessments, process reviews, and control evaluations to identify risks and improvement opportunities.  

• Analyse information and evidence to assess compliance, control effectiveness, and organisational performance.  

• Prepare clear audit reports, recommendations, and assurance documentation that support continuous improvement.  

• Monitor corrective actions and coordinate external audits, accreditation reviews, and regulatory assessments.  

• Build strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to the ongoing development of assurance frameworks, reporting, and quality improvement initiatives. 

 
About you 

You will bring a curious and analytical mindset, a strong eye for detail, and the confidence to engage effectively with people at all levels of the organisation.

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

• A relevant tertiary qualification and/or practical experience in audit, assurance, quality, risk, compliance or a related field.  

• 3 to 4 years' experience supporting or delivering internal audits, assurance reviews or compliance activities.  

• Professional certifications such as CIA, CA ANZ or CISA (or a willingness to work towards these) would be advantageous. 

• Knowledge of auditing principles, risk management, regulatory compliance requirements, and relevant industry standards. 

• Experience within the health, mental health, addiction, community housing or wider social services sector.  

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and identify practical improvement opportunities.  

• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, report writing, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities. 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, data analysis, and reporting tools, with an interest in leveraging technology. 

• A collaborative and culturally responsive approach, with a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, continuous learning, and professional development.
