Job Description - BARBERING AND HAIRDRESSING LECTURER

Location: HMP Huntercombe, Henley-on-Thames, RG9 5SB
Hours:
20 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Flexible Working:

Salary:
Approx. £17,600 per annum (FTE £33,000 FTE subject to experience and qualification)

MK College Group is recruiting for an inspiring and creative Barbering and Hairdressing Lecturer to join the Education Team based on-site at HMP Huntercombe. This position is also suitable for experienced barbers/hairdressers who do not yet have teaching qualifications and are willing to work towards them in a supportive environment.

As a Barbering and Hairdressing Tutor, you will be delivering exciting and engaging topics through the awarding body of Gateway/ City & Guilds or VTCT, along with other general subjects. These could include Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Learning Difficulties awareness, among others.

We are looking for an experienced industry professional who has worked within a salon or barber shop and is keen to share their practical skills and knowledge. Due to the requirements for the awarding body, we are seeking an individual who possesses Level 3 hairdressing and/or Level 3 qualification. In terms of the softer skills delivery, support would be provided around content and resources to the successful candidate, to develop these sessions alongside their barbering/hairdressing delivery.

ABOUT HMP HUNTERCOMBE

HMP Huntercombe opened as a prison in 1946, the site was originally built as an internment camp during the last war, when for a short period it held Rudolf Hess, on his way south after he famously parachuted into Scotland. Extensive redevelopment has taken place over the last twenty years and there is little left of the wartime buildings.
Currently Huntercombe is a Category C adult male establishment holding a solely foreign national population in order to support government priorities on the deportation of foreign national offenders. Courses delivered within the prison include: English, Maths, ICT, P&D, Barbering, Construction, Hospitality, Art and ESOL. The education department working day is from 7.50am – 4.40pm Monday – Thursday & 7.50am-1.30pm Friday
