Bovine Reproduction Technician

Tararua Breeding Centre is a licensed bovine/ovine semen and embryo collection centre. Our business thrives on talented people with acute attention to detail providing superior care and advice for the health, wellbeing and performance of animals.

We have a vacancy for a bovine reproductive technician to assist and support our reproduction consultant in their delivery of on-farm bull fertility testing, cattle artificial insemination and semen collection services to our clients.

Travel is an integral part of this job with the successful applicant being able to travel away from home, including overnight stays for durations of up to a week at a time.

This full-time position will be held at the Tararua Breeding Centre, located in Woodville.

The position requires a good understanding of the sheep and beef industry. Good animal handling and technician skills, particularly in the bovine sector would be an advantage, but not essential, as full training will be given to the successful applicant.

An ability to develop and maintain good relationships with clients and their staff is essential.

To be successful in this role you will need:

• An ability to work well under pressure


• Experience in animal handling especially cattle


• Flexibility with time and travel


• Be able to adapt to changing situations and conditions


• Excellent communication skills


• Sense of humour


• Be physically fit

And have the following desired knowledge, although some of this can be taught on the job

• Basic farm experience – animal feeding and machinery operation


• Trained artificial insemination technician is an advantage


• Tertiary qualifications desired but not essential.
