About the role:

We have recently introduced a new position in our Life and Health division. The role is open to candidates located anywhere on the South Island. As the GAM - L&H, you will report directly to the National Manager. Your main responsibility will be to provide expert insurance advice and products to our clients, ensuring that they have adequate coverage to financially withstand any insurable event.

In addition to this, you will also be responsible for coaching a team to align with Gallagher's purpose and effectively convert new business opportunities. Your contribution will be crucial in delivering exceptional client service and fostering a client-focused culture within the organization.

Key responsibilities for the role include:

People leadership

  • Create open two-way communication through building trust and respect within the team, branch and the group. 
  • Develop, coach and motivate the team to increase capability and continuously improve service quality delivered by yourself and your team. 
  • Act as the initial referral point for complaints or technical queries and assist team members with escalation to the technical specialist/team or your manager where required.
  • Develop clear, stretch KPIs for individuals based on available metrics and monitor to align service delivery with key stakeholder expectations. Drive your team members to achieve these agreed business KPI’s with your support and guidance. 
  • Performance management of your team where required in conjunction with Gallagher policies and guidelines and your People & Culture representative.
  • Manage recruitment, selection and induction of new staff into your team to ensure effective integration into the business.
  • Ensure all people management processes are implemented and monitored.
  • Facilitate and monitor adherence to, and consistency of the service standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure team members understand the requirements of their work and are equipped with tools and training required for successful performance and effective decision making.

Business Strategy and Planning 

  • Contribute to and deliver on the mid and short-term business strategy and planning to ensure that our targets and goals are met.
  • Undertake assigned acquisition work. 

Business development & client management 

  • Implement a new business strategy and actively prospect new clients through development of referral partner relationships across the branch network, own research, networking and client referral requests.
  • Manage new and existing business and prepare and present proposals to potential clients.
  • Deliver a quality customer experience and assist and build positive customer relationships through advice and liaison with internal and external customers.
  • Ensure client needs and strategic aims are always understood and assessed and deliver product advice and services that are appropriate to specific needs, compliant with legislation and in approved collateral. 
  • Proactively look for opportunities to assist in the promotion products that are appropriate to the client, (e.g. commercial insurance, premium funding, cyber risk and domestic insurance).

Risk, Compliance and H&S

  • Mitigate the risk of Professional Indemnity (PI) exposure and employment disputes. 
  • Ensure the team is compliant with risk frameworks to mitigate risk exposure; participate in the financial audit process, internal and external audit process and adviser case reviews.
  • Ensure the team comply with the Financial Services Legislation Act (FSLAA) and that anyone in the team that provides Financial Advice is licensed and holds a current certificate in Financial Services (NZQA Level 5). 
  • Ensure you understand your responsibilities in Health and Safety and promote it within the workplace.
  • Proactively participate in all training and development education that is undertaken by Gallagher and promote to the Advisers in your Team.
  • Keep updated and informed of product developments from all insurers, to ensure Gallagher customers are protected in the best way possible.

Skills and Experience:

  • People management experience and the ability to develop and lead a team to high performance.
  • With high level regulatory awareness you are an authentic and inspirational communicator comfortable with a varying audience and credible at decision maker level.
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills with proven ability to build effective relationships across many levels and network with insurer partners.
  • Proven experience developing and managing complex Life & Health client accounts and generate, qualify and close new business opportunities.
  • Comfortable explaining complex concepts and making recommendations to customers.
  • Holds a Certificate in Financial Services (NZQA Level 5) – preferably in the Life, Health and Disability strand.
