 Nelson is a growing city with many exciting initiatives planned, including intensification of residential areas and the rebuilding of its Hospital. The Hospital project is an exciting challenge for the Building team with a project scope of approximately 10 years, it will be the largest building project the region has ever experienced!

You may be an experienced Building Control Officer who has existing commercial processing competencies or an experienced qualified Architect, draftsperson with a commercial background, a strong working knowledge of the NZ Building Act, Building Code, and relevant standards.

 As a Building officer – Processing building consents

You will:

• Assess building consents against the Building Act 2004 and other relevant regulations and standards.
• Ensure applications are completed to a high standard with appropriate information and are accurately reviewed in line with the Building Code.
• Undertake consent processing within a range of competencies with a focus toward C2 or C3 competency level.
• Provide excellent, accurate and prompt customer service.

About you | Ko ngā pūmanawa ōu

We are seeking an experienced consent processor who has working knowledge of building designs and relevant Building legislation. You will hold a Level 6 Diploma as a Surveyor or relevant qualification, ideally hold C2 -  C3 level competency and be willing to grow. There is scope within this role to support an individual who has no relevant Council experience, however has extensive commercial design experience and is willing to grow in competencies.

Additional skills you will bring to these roles are:

• Strong teamwork and customer service focus
• Excellent communication skills and natural ability to build positive relationships with a variety of people.
• Sound judgement and interpretation skills
• A good sense of humor, proficient computer skills
• Full drivers license
• Ability to work within a regulatory environment are essential.
