About Freightways Information Services (FIS)
Freightways Information Services Ltd (FIS) is the internal shared services provider of information technology and advisory services to the Freightways Group. We partner closely with our business units to deliver modern, reliable, and scalable technology solutions that support Freightways’ operations across New Zealand and internationally.
FIS values collaboration, openness, and practical problem-solving. We work in a non-hierarchical, supportive environment, with a strong focus on delivering outcomes that genuinely improve how our customers work.
The Role
We are looking for a Business Analyst who enjoys working closely with stakeholders to understand how work is really done and how it could be improved. You will help identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce waste, and improve flow, while ensuring technology solutions are aligned to real business needs.
This is a product- and outcome-focused role, well suited to a strong mid to senior level Business Analyst who is curious, pragmatic, and comfortable working across both process and technology change.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Freightways business processes, their context, and objectives.
- Work with stakeholders to observe, analyse, and document current-state processes, identifying pain points, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Apply lean thinking to help simplify processes, reduce rework, and improve customer and operational outcomes.
- Act as a customer advocate, ensuring solutions are grounded in real user needs and business value.
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Product Owners to shape initiatives, validate requirements, and support delivery planning.
- Translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Support the development and refinement of product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with strategy and continuous improvement goals.
- Work closely with Solution Architects, Product Owners, Product Mangers and delivery teams to ensure proposed changes are feasible, understood, and deliverable.
- Assess the impact of change on people, processes, and systems, and support stakeholders through that change.
- Maintain open, clear communication to ensure shared understanding across teams.
- Contribute to the evolution of business analysis and continuous improvement practices within FIS.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who combines strong analysis skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
Experience & Skills
- 5+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst, ideally at least 2 years’ experience in a technology-enabled Agile environment.
- Experience analysing and improving business processes.
- Familiarity with lean principles (e.g. value focus, waste reduction, incremental improvement).
- Strong capability in requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation.
- Experience using modelling techniques such as process maps, value stream maps, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Experience supporting product roadmaps and working with Product Managers and Product Owners.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional delivery teams.
- Exposure to system modernisation, digital platforms, or cloud-based solutions is an advantage.
Ways of Working
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Curious and observant, with a desire to understand how work really happens.
- Pragmatic and outcome-focused, able to balance improvement opportunities with delivery constraints.
- Collaborative and open, comfortable working in a non-hierarchical environment.
- Values simplicity and clarity over over-engineered solutions.
Why Join FIS?
- Work on initiatives that directly improve how Freightways operates.
- Be part of a collaborative, inclusive team that values ideas over hierarchy.
- Apply lean thinking to real-world problems, not just theory.
- Help modernise systems and processes incrementally and sustainably.
- Ongoing opportunities to grow your skills across business analysis, product, and continuous improvement.
