Job Description - Business Development Consultant

The role


We're looking for a driven and commercially savvy Business Development Consultant to join our North Harbour sales team. In this role, you'll focus on driving high‑margin new business growth through disciplined face‑to‑face prospecting, structured territory coverage, and effective in‑person sales activity.  Act as the key link between prospects and internal teams to ensure smooth onboarding, supporting early trading performance before transitioning customers to the Existing Business team.  You'll play a key role in connecting prospects with our internal teams, ensuring a seamless transition from initial engagement through to active trading.


 


What you'll be doing



  • Own and manage a defined new business territory with clear coverage and structured prospecting plans.

  • Proactively identify, target, and convert SME and mid‑market prospects into active, profitable customers.

  • Conduct purposeful face‑to‑face call cycles to maximise territory coverage and drive new opportunities.

  • Assess customer logistics operations on site to identify viable commercial opportunities.

  • Build strong, credible relationships from first engagement and develop multi‑level stakeholder connections to reduce reliance on single points of contact.

  • Position the business as a trusted logistics partner through value‑led, solution‑focused conversations.

  • Ensure newly onboarded customers commence trading and continue to ship in line with expectations set during the sales process.

  • Proven experience in sales, business development, or a similar role.

  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to identify profitable opportunities.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • High resilience, motivation, and drive to exceed targets.

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
