As part of our ambitious growth strategy, we are looking for a dynamic Business Development Manager to  drive the strategy, growth, and management of our Awanui Vet and Scientific business. 

This role can be based in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. 


About the role | Mō te tūranga:
The Business Development Manager supports Awanui’s growth by identifying and executing opportunities, build strong customer partnerships, and contributing to the development of commercial strategies across the veterinary and scientific sectors. You’ll work closely with internal teams to support operational alignment, enhance customer service, and help drive revenue and margin growth. This role reports to Head of Business Development and collaborates across various functions.


Key responsibilities include:



  • Identifying, developing and executing new business opportunities within the veterinary and scientific sectors.

  • Supporting the execution of commercial plans in collaboration with other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and potential clients.

  • Assisting in market research and analysis to inform commercial decisions and identify growth areas.

  • Contribute to developing annual marketing and promotions plans including client communications

  • Working with operational teams to ensure service delivery aligns with client needs.

  • Monitoring sales performance and contributing to regular reporting and forecasting.

  • Providing input into budget planning and commercial initiatives.



About you | He kōrero mōu
To be successful in this role: 



  • A results-driven, self-motivated professional with experience in consultative sales, ideally within the animal health, veterinary, scientific or human health and medical device sectors.

  • A proven track record in identifying and developing new business opportunities, managing client relationships, and achieving sales targets.

  • Solid understanding of financial principles, with experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and contributing to commercial planning.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with internal teams and external clients.

  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with operations, marketing, and technical staff to ensure aligned service delivery and client satisfaction.

  • Confident using data and digital tools to support commercial decision-making and reporting.

  • Able to travel regularly and hold a clean New Zealand driver’s license.
