Job Description - Business Development Manager - Career Growth Potential

PickPath is an innovative new platform for building and sharing creative app guided experiences, operating across the arts, culture and heritage sectors, as well as in tourism and local government. We provide our software-as-a-service platform alongside creative experience design services and support for those utilising the platform. We are passionate about enabling the creation of impactful digital experiences.

We’re seeking a highly motivated individual to lead sales and client management and drive growth at this pivotal time. This role will suit a self-starter who is enthused by the idea of getting into the thick of a creative company as it establishes its exciting product in the market.

PickPath is a unique company straddling tech and the creative arts, and as such, above all we are seeking an individual who is curious, collaborative and enthusiastic about the potential of PickPath. We may consider applicants who have not held experience in sales or client management who have experience in adjacent roles such as partnership management, provided the applicant demonstrates a high level of alignment in other areas.

About the role:

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for:

  • Leading sales activities within identified target customer segments, the development of sales tools and reporting on sales progress;
  • Researching and pursuing sales opportunities in new customer segments;
  • Assisting the directors with the development of the company’s business and strategic plans; 
  • Overseeing the journey of clients receiving creative services, including contracting and the monitoring of key milestones and deliverables;
  • Overseeing some operational aspects of the business including administrative contracts, company organisational tools and reporting to the directors.

Key skills we are seeking:

  • Sales Expertise: Proven track record of success in sales, with a good understanding of sales techniques, strategies, and best practices. Ability to generate leads, negotiate deals, and close sales effectively.

and/or:

  • Client Relationship Management: Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong, long-lasting client and stakeholder relationships. Skilled in understanding client needs, addressing concerns, and providing solutions to enhance client satisfaction and retention.

as well as:

  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively. Proficiency in active listening and conveying information in a compelling manner.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to identify client challenges and develop innovative solutions to meet their needs. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and overcome obstacles effectively.
  • Customer Focus: Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and exceeding client expectations. Dedication to understanding and fulfilling client needs to foster long-term partnerships and drive business growth.
  • Adaptability and Resilience: Flexibility to adapt to evolving dynamics, client needs, and internal processes. Resilience in the face of challenges, with the ability to maintain motivation and drive towards achieving targets.

We are also looking for someone with:

  • Knowledge and understanding of arts, culture and heritage sectors and/or tourism and government sectors;
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and other common applications such as Xero, Miro and Slack;
  • An interest in creative technology and innovation and/or a passion for the creative arts;
  • A high level of independence, organisational and time management skills;
  • An understanding and respect for the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
  • Honesty and integrity.

The fundamentals:

This role is a six month, full time contract based in Wellington (working from home and from a hot desk workspace), however, we are open to providing a more flexible arrangement (including a job share) for the right candidate. The preferred start date is Monday 10th June.

Based on the success of revenue targets and the company’s position by the end of 2024, we will be looking to extend the term of the contract and include share options.
