About the opportunity

Make a positive impact on Tairawhiti businesses! In this rewarding role, you’ll work on enabling small businesses to innovate and thrive.

As a Business Growth Advisor, you will work with businesses of all sizes to identify their challenges and opportunities and connect them to the right information, advice, services and funding to achieve their ambitions. You will become a trusted advisor, helping businesses to achieve their development goals and connect them to the right support at the right time. 

As a champion of innovation and entrepreneurship, you’ll encourage and inspire businesses to find new ways of doing things that make them more sustainable, productive, resilient and better equipped to provide opportunities for well-paid, quality jobs. 

You will be a bridge between businesses, industry organisations and government agencies including Callaghan Innovation and MBIE to create a collaborative and seamless network that supports businesses to transform their ideas into real-world solutions.  

This is a proactive, visible role, so engaging with people will come naturally to you as you build trusted relationships with a diverse range of people and organisations. Your passion for Tairāwhiti will shine through as you advocate for the importance of doing great business, building future-focused skills and enhancing management capability.  

Work alongside a dedicated team led by the Business Growth and Innovation Manager and collaborate with the economic development and regional tourism teams to deliver our vision of a diverse, sustainable and innovative regional economy.

What will you bring:

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

• A strong understanding of business and economic development with the ability to transfer this knowledge to business owners.
• Sound knowledge of Tairawhiti, its people and its economic development context and opportunities. 
• Exceptional communication and listening skills including excellent advocacy skills for the adoption of business best practice. 
• Experience in building trusted relationships with a range of stakeholders.
• Possess a high level of cultural competency respecting Te Ao Māori.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including clear reporting, engaging presentations, and professional writing.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
