Casual Café Assistant/ Barista – Thrive Café

Are you a warm, welcoming person who enjoys great coffee, good food and making people feel at home? Thrive Café, part of Christchurch City Mission, is looking for a casual Café Assistant / Barista to join our friendly team.

At Christchurch City Mission, we support people and whānau across Ōtautahi who are facing hardship, crisis or change. Through our services, we walk alongside people with compassion, dignity and practical support. Thrive Café plays an important part in this mahi by creating a welcoming space for our clients, visitors, staff and community.

About the role

This casual role supports the day-to-day running of Thrive Café and our catering services. You’ll help prepare food and beverages, make great coffee, serve customers, and keep the café clean, safe and welcoming.

Operating hours: Monday to Friday, 7.30am–3.00pm. As this is a casual role, days and hours will vary depending on café requirements.

What you’ll bring

• A trained barista background


• A full driver’s licence


• A warm, empathetic and welcoming approach


• Great communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life


• Customer service or hospitality experience would be an advantage


• A positive, flexible attitude and willingness to pitch in where needed
