Mō te tūnga | About the role

 The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a critical senior role within Oranga Tamariki, reporting to the DCE People, Culture & Enabling Services and supporting the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team in their effective management of the Ministry’s financial sustainability.  The CFO plays a key role in supporting the effective management of the Ministry’s resources to enable Oranga Tamariki to deliver on its Strategy and new Operating Model.   

 The CFO will lead the Funding and Performance function and will be responsible for embedding strategic financial management strategies, frameworks, processes and a fiscally sustainable mindset across the business.   The role brings financial leadership to Oranga Tamariki’s Senior Leadership Team and the organisation, influencing business groups and leaders towards enhanced financial planning, performance and risk management, and actively leading work to ensure the organisation is fiscally sustainable now and into the future.   

 We are on a transformation journey.  As the financial leader of the organisation, you will continue to lead the work underway to understand and drive cost efficiency and effectiveness across our continuum of care, and our work establishing our return on investment methodology.  This will help ensure the most vulnerable tamariki in New Zealand get the evidence-based care and services they need, and that we are delivering a world class child protection service.   Further details of the role’s scope are covered in the position description [hyperlink here].

The CFO is also the relationship leader with the NZ Treasury, Office of the Auditor General, external suppliers and other agencies. This is an outward-facing role that will sustain and build strong networks with our partners.
