About the team | Mō tō mātou rōpū

The Waitemata Clinical Campus is part of the School of Medicine and is located at both North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals. The campus provides clinical education for medical students, primarily in Years 4–6 and hosts the Clinical Methods Course for Year 3 students – a 8-week programme introducing students to hospital life, and how to take and present a clinical history.

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi



The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences is seeking two Registered Nurses to support Year 3 medical students during the Clinical Methods Course – an important early introduction to clinical practice and the hospital environment.

These part-time roles will be based at Waitakere Hospital and North Shore Hospital, respectively, and will involve identifying and consenting suitable inpatients to take part in bedside teaching alongside Clinical Methods Tutors (doctors) and students.



These are part time, fixed-term positions from 19 August to 23 October 2025.

Please note that no work is required during the mid-semester University break from 1 September to 15 September 2025.

Vacancy 1 – North Shore Hospital

  • 0.4 FTE (15 hours per week)
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings (before 12pm)

Vacancy 2 – Waitakere Hospital

  • 0.2 FTE (7.5 hours per week)
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings (before 12pm)

Key responsibilities | Ngā kawenga matua

  • Liaise with ward staff to identify suitable inpatient volunteers
  • Approach and assess patients for willingness and clinical appropriateness to participate in teaching sessions
  • Obtain and document verbal consent in patient notes
  • Where appropriate, examine patients to confirm relevant clinical signs
  • Prepare and share a patient list (including reserves) with Clinical Methods Tutors by 12.30pm each teaching day
  • Ensure patients are aware participation is voluntary and that they may not ultimately be selected by teaching staff
  • Act with cultural sensitivity and prioritise patient wellbeing at all times

These are part time (15 / 7.5 hours per week), fixed term positions. The salary range for these roles is between $72,000- $88,900 (pro rata) dependent on skills and experience.

Qualifications

About you | He kōrero mōu



You will be a New Zealand Registered Nurse with:

  • A current Annual Practising Certificate
  • A minimum of two years’ nursing experience
  • Valid CPR and/or Advanced Life Support certification

You will also demonstrate:

  • Cultural competence and a respectful, inclusive approach
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • The ability to build effective relationships with clinical and academic colleagues
  • Calm, professional conduct in a fast-paced hospital environment
