Job Title: Clinical Supervisor

Reporting To: Clinical Manager

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full Time or Part-time - (20hrs p/wk 4hr shifts (5pm-2am UK time) (6am-3pm NZ time)) inc weekends

Salary: $80-90k full-time equivalent/pro-rata

Base: Remote (NZ)

Founded in November 2017 following the success of The Royal Foundation’s ‘Heads Together’ campaign, it launched its first product, Shout, in 2019. Shout is a free, confidential, 24/7 text message service for anybody to text when they may be struggling with anxiety, loneliness or depression through to self harm or suicidal thoughts.

Job Summary

To provide online, in-the-moment clinical supervision and support to trained Volunteers/Clinical Practitioners (CPs) in their text conversations with texters on our UK 24/7 text messaging platform. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, communicate with and support people in their conversations with texters; continuously assessing for any imminent risk or safeguarding concern  and reporting concerns as appropriate
  • Work in partnership with the Clinical Team Leader and other supervisors to ensure that we allocate our resources to deliver the best possible service to texters
  • Work collaboratively with fellow Supervisors on shift, providing support with clinical decisions about risk and safeguarding
  • Maintain clinical records and complete any follow-up administrative work, and report any concerns to Clinical Managers and/or the Safeguarding team
  • Support the skills development and the wellbeing of Volunteers/CPs, and work in close partnership with the Volunteer Support team and CP Manager, who support them off the platform
  • Make decisions regarding immediate safety and risk around suicidality and self-harm, following internal policies
  • Communicate with emergency services and/or external services to support Texters requiring immediate life-saving support or safeguarding
  • Take conversations with texters to help manage service demand if required
  • Regularly attend meetings, online or in person, including team meetings, one-to-ones, workshops and training
  • Attend regular external clinical supervision with external personal Supervisor (paid for by MHI) with a minimum of one session per month
  • Contribute to service development and continuous quality improvement within the organisation, including participation in ongoing in-person or online training and professional development
  • Maintain membership, registration and/or accreditation with a relevant professional body
  • At all times, adhere to Mental Health Innovations and Shout’s model, policies and procedures. and engage in a way that is reflective of the organisation's values

Person Specification

Essential criteria

  • Psychotherapy/Counselling/Psychology/Mental Health Nursing or Social Work practice qualification 
  • Accreditation/registration with the BACP, UKCP, BPS, NMC or NZAC, DAPAANZ, or equivalent relevant professional body
  • Clinical/professional experience working with risk relating to suicide, self-harm, complex mental health problems and safeguarding
  • Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent IT skills

Desirable criteria

  • Qualification in Clinical Supervision
  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Experience in working digitally with clients/supervisees 
  • Strong knowledge and experience of safeguarding, confidentiality and risk
  • Sound experience of supervising groups or individuals
