Job Description - CNC Milling Machinist

The role

As a CNC Machinist at Accord, your main responsibility will be to competently program, set and run multi-axis CNC machines to produce quality products to specification on time and in an efficient manner.

 

To succeed in this role, you will need to apply your extensive background and experience in CNC programming, setting, and machining to produce a wide variety of products within defined specifications and tolerances in a timely and efficient manner.   You will be precise and detailed focused, motivated to produce high quality products yet able to maintain a flexible approach and attitude due to the variety of work.  You will need to apply your initiative and machining creativity to get the job done, and work in an open and collaborative way with all stakeholders.  You thrive at being part of a professional team in a fast paced, customer orientated environment that is future and growth focused.

 

Role requirements:

  • Programming CAD models provided to you by the design team using GibbsCam. 
  • Ensure that all jobs are planned and ready to run with the necessary jigs & fixtures, tooling, and programs needed to run the job efficiently.
  • Ensure tool lists, programs, and job/work instructions are accurately maintained.
  • Ensure machines or processes are producing a quality product, and the correct frequency of inspections are carried out.
  • Ensure required production levels are maintained by using job instructions. 
  • Ensure the production run is complete and quality data is current before setting for the next job.
  • Provide training to operators to ensure they understand how to perform duties safely and efficiently. 
  • Ensure all machines are running to standard costed set, cycle times and make suitable changes to meet the production plan. Inform the Technical Manager of any changes via the job management card system. 
  • Inform the Team Leader of any issues that arise during the set-up or programming stage.

 

Skills and Experience

The company is seeking a motivated self-starter that brings a strong mix of the right attitude, good team fit, professional competency and are recognized amongst their peers as being at the top of their game and producing quality products. We are seeking a candidate who will ideally have the following attributes:

 

  • A formal relevant trade qualification, with 3+ years of direct CNC Milling Machinist experience. 
  • Proven 4 & 5 Axis programming experience.
  • A strong understanding and proficiency in CAM Software (ideally Gibbs Cam or equivalent).
  • Able to interpret advanced technical drawings and models, including GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
  • Demonstrated competence at designing and producing new jigs and fixtures as a machine programmer and setter.
  • Proficiency in measurement and metrology in support of setting, achieving first-off articles within tolerance and maintaining production tolerances. 
  • A good understanding of modern manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of different metals, materials, and the characteristics of the material - especially during manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in ‘manual’ machining (milling and/or turning).
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) from a machining and production perspective.
  • Candidates must be a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident. Overseas candidates that could be eligible to work in New Zealand and towards residency may be considered.

The business is offering a market competitive remuneration package of $35 p/h+ depending on skills and experience, a four-day 40-hour working week from 6:00 am to 4:30pm, Monday-Thursday with the opportunity for additional hours on Fridays if required, and free parking.
