The Department of Internal Affairs | Te Tari Taiwhenua (DIA) plays a central role in New Zealand's public service delivery, supporting communities, government, and democracy through a broad range of services and functions. 




Ministerial Services (MS), within the Partnerships and Commissions branch, is responsible for ensuring Ministers are supported to effectively carry out their responsibilities. As a significant employer on the Parliamentary Precinct, MS manages Ministerial Office employment arrangements and supports positive workplace culture and employee wellbeing. 




About the opportunity 




Ministerial Services is responsible for ensuring that members of the Executive have access to the services and support they need to effectively carry out their ministerial responsibilities. The group plays a critical role across government, providing advice and oversight of ministerial entitlements, supporting ministerial office staffing arrangements, and helping foster a positive workplace culture on the Parliamentary Precinct. 




Prior to the 2026 General Election, the Election 2026 Programme team will plan a wide range of activities required to support the successful transition to the 55th Executive.  As Collateral Editor, you'll play a key role in preparing for the transition to the 55th Executive by leading the development, coordination, production, and publication of key ministerial information materials. 




Working closely with the Director - Election 2026 Programme, Programme workstreams, subject matter experts, and stakeholders across DIA and Parliamentary Precinct, you'll ensure information is accurate, accessible, and delivered to demanding timeframes.  




As part of the Election 2026 Programme team, you'll oversee the end-to-end delivery of a suite of publications and resources, ensuring every product is professional, consistent, and completed to the highest editorial standards.  




Key Responsibilities  




You'll lead the end-to-end development and production of Ministerial Services information publications including:  





  • Coordinating authors, subject matter experts, reviewers, and contributors 





  • Managing editorial workflows, reviews, approvals, and publication schedules 





  • Editing, proofreading, quality assuring, and checking final proofs 





  • Managing print and digital publication processes 





  • Working with external suppliers, including designers and printers 





  • Ensuring publications meet Department of Internal Affairs standards, style, and quality requirements 





  • Identifying and resolving production risks and issues before they impact delivery 




About You 




We're looking for a highly organised editorial professional who thrives in complex, deadline-driven environment. 




You'll ideally bring: 





  • Experience managing complex publications or communications projects involving multiple stakeholders 





  • Experience in production editing 

  • Proven success delivering multiple publications simultaneously to tight deadlines 





  • Strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills 





  • Sound editing, proofreading, copy-editing, and quality assurance capability 





  • Experience working with print and digital publishing processes 





  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work 





  • Excellent written communication and editorial judgement
