Are you passionate about effective communication and engagement, wanting to embark on a challenging and meaningful role?

Dunedin Kindergartens are seeking a talented professional to join the team in a sole charge Communications & Engagement Advisor position. If you have experience in media management, stakeholder engagement, and internal and external communication functions, we want to hear from you!

The Role

The Communications & Engagement Advisor covers a wide scope, including providing communications advice and support, handling media enquiries, creating and implementing communications plans, managing social media, building and managing complex relationships, and writing engaging content for multiple channels.

This is a newly created position where you have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact and genuinely add value to the organisation and the community.

Reporting to the General Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing and maintaining close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Providing expert communications advice and coordination on various communication channels, including managing the website and social media platforms.
  • Delivering communications functions such as drafting press releases, developing marketing campaigns, and managing digital engagement.
  • Serving as the first point of contact for media inquiries and managing responses effectively.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of communication processes and systems.

About You

This is an integral role, in order to thrive you'll need:

  • Strong experience in communications (i.e. experience in an Advisor, Senior Advisor, or Lead role) including developing communications plans, media relations and social media
  • Experience managing media and responding to media queries
  • A good understanding and practical experience in building strong relationships and advising staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for a wide range of channels and audiences
  • Strong digital literacy
  • Exceptional organisation and time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a busy, complex environment
  • Your positive attitude and optimism are matched by your strong work ethic and drive to succeed

While not essential, experience or interest in the early childhood education sector would be advantageous.

The Company

Dunedin Kindergartens are a non-profit community-based organisation that employs around 170 staff, most of whom are involved with the delivery of education services across 24 Dunedin kindergartens.
