Taumata Arowai is the water services regulator for Aotearoa New Zealand – our vision is for “safe water every day, for everyone”. It is a Crown entity governed by a Minister-appointed Board and advised on Māori interests and knowledge by Te Puna, a statutory Māori Advisory Group. Our responsibilities are to protect and promote drinking water safety and related public health outcomes - we regulate drinking water suppliers on behalf of the public. We also have an oversight role in relation to the environmental performance of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater networks.

Our Communications Manager will lead and support a communications team who will provide strategic insights, direction and thought leadership across our organisation. Our Communications Manager is a key leader, supporting our Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team who sees communications as a fundamental regulatory lever to deliver safe water, every day for everyone. In this role you’ll demonstrate and apply your sound reasoning skills, and understanding of the broader environment, including the public and water sectors, in which we operate.
Managing a team of communications specialists, including strategic communications, media, channels and content, and internal communications, you’ll operate at a strategic and operational level as Taumata Arowai develops and matures. You’ll need to work with complexity, ambiguity and be able to think on your feet to provide proactive and reactive support. Innovation and creativity are key drivers in the way we will work – our size requires us to be smart and agile.
We are looking for an experienced communications professional who can demonstrate their ability to think strategically and broadly to deliver long-lasting solutions. Our Communications Manager will be comfortable working within a range of disciplines and mediums to engage effectively with our diverse stakeholders. We’re looking for someone who can lead, influence at the senior level, and will enjoy managing complex problems.
