Job Description - Community Support Worker

We are a national provider of mental health, addiction, disability, offender rehabilitation, well-being and housing services. We are looking for a Support Worker to join our Adult Community Mobile Team. You will predominantly be working with clients who are aged 18 to 24 years so relatability is key! It is expected that you would be supporting clients in their homes across Christchurch, supporting them with their goal plans, and work with other dynamic and professional teams that support our tangata whaiora.

You'll provide support to clients who have a mental health diagnosis, some may also face challenges with drug and alcohol addictions.

It is expected you will work collaboratively with your peers ensuring the welfare and recovery of clients by:

  • Providing support with goal setting, development of life skills, creativity, vocational, educational, and employment opportunities, relationship skills, and communication strategies
  • Travelling to visit and support clients in the community either at their homes or where they may choose to meet - to ensure they feel less isolated
  • Using your community connections to encourage clients to become involved in the wider community
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Focusing on the strengths and interests of the clients
  • Working face-to-face with our community clients, and networking within the community

It is a requirement of this role you have a full NZ Drivers Licence, as mobility is key in connecting with our tangata whaiora. This position is a full time (40 hours per week) permanent position.

The role is flexible and can be worked between the hours of 7am and 7pm, Monday to Sunday. It is about connecting with clients - so you need to be flexible.

If you have the following skills and/or experience, we would love to hear from you:

  • A mental health level 4 qualification or above (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in mental health community support service
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Be culturally respectful and non-judgmental
  • See the potential in people and thrive in a challenging and ever-changing environment
  • Have strong professional boundaries
  • Can easily build professional relationships with our tangata whaiora (clients)
  • Be able to use IT systems confidently - we use various databases such as Record Base to record client information, and Akoranga our learning management system along with other IT applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
