Job Description - Community Support Worker - Children and Youth

About the Position | Te Mahi


Support work is fun, people-facing, challenging, and very rewarding, and it is also a deeply empathetic journey. It is more than a job; it is an opportunity to provide invaluable support, led by the people you will be supporting.



Responsibilities may Include:



  • Supporting children to access the community safely

  • Assisting with personal cares, including toileting support where required

  • Fun, active, play-based support through bike riding, scootering, swimming, playground adventures, and interactive games.

  • Collecting service users from school and transporting them to activities

  • Household management and occasional meal preparation to support the family

  • Supporting exercise programmes and structured routines



Job Location: Bay of plenty



Employment Type:  Part-Time (Up to 29 Hours)


We offer a range of employment opportunities including, part-time, and full-time positions, which will be discussed further during the recruitment process.



Days of work: As this is community-based work, rotating rosters would be involved including am, pm and weekend work. Your preferred hours of work can be discussed during the recruitment process.


The duration of these hours may vary, ranging from shorter to longer periods, depending on the specific needs of the people we support.



About you | He momo


You are calm, confident, and resilient, with a strong understanding of the challenges our service users face. The support worker role carries significant responsibility and can be both demanding and deeply rewarding. It is especially fulfilling to know that your support helps someone live their best life within their community.



The candidate would have (Candidate Pre-Requisites):



  • Experience working with children and young adults (this may be in education, as a nanny, in your own family circle, or in other environments)

  • Experience in assisting children with their personal cares is desired

  • Exposure to challenging behaviors, or a genuine willingness to learn and be trained

  • Demonstrated ability to care for a child including play and support for their appropriate age

  • The energy and stamina to keep up with children who are constantly on the move

  • The ability to remain calm in all situations

  • Clear spoken English, strong listening skills, and the ability to communicate calmly and effectively

  • Willingness to support families in a way that meets their needs

  • Access to a car and ability to drive independently (a full New Zealand Driver's License is a must)

  • Flexibility to travel



  • Availability to work on a rotating roster Monday through to Sunday



  • Legal right to work in New Zealand is a must.

  • Pay Band: $24.13 - $30.78 per hour (This is based on the Pay Equity Settlement 2017 – hourly pay rates based on equivalency of Healthcare Qualifications assessed under Pay Equity).
