Compliance Manager

Fresh Meats NZ is a boutique Napier-based lamb processor operating year-round to produce premium products for both domestic and export markets. Fresh Meats is part of the Integrated Foods Group, a vertically integrated agribusiness with large-scale farming operations in Gisborne.

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Compliance Manager to lead our food safety and regulatory compliance efforts. This is a pivotal role that ensures our operations meet the highest standards while supporting business growth and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee compliance with all relevant food safety regulations and quality assurance requirements.


• Maintain and continually improve the company’s compliance systems, procedures and documents (eg. HACCP, RMP, MPI standards, internal audits)


• Liaise with regulatory authorities and prepare for external audits and inspections.


• Lead internal audits and root cause analysis for non-conformances.


• Identify compliance risks and opportunities for improvement, and provide input on operational planning.


• Balance regulatory compliance with business needs by providing clear, solution-oriented guidance.


• Provide compliance training to operational and QA staff. Promote a culture of accuracy, ownership, and continuous improvement across all levels.

About you:

You are a detail-oriented, solutions-focused professional with a passion for food safety and continuous improvement. You thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy working collaboratively across teams.

• Minimum 3 years experience in a food safety or compliance manager role, preferably in the meat industry.


• Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance frameworks (including MPI, RMP, and HACCP).


• Technologically savvy, with the ability to streamline and modernise compliance systems.


• Solutions-focused mindset, enabling the business to meet objectives while maintaining compliance.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• Proven ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.


• Strong time management and organisational skills.


• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across teams and levels.


• A growth mindset and willingness to help others improve through training and guidance.
