Athletics New Zealand exists to deliver great athletics experiences

Steeped in history, athletes in the famous black singlet have delivered so many magical New Zealand sporting moments. Athletics is the foundation of all sport (run, jump, throw) and underpinning a strong high-performance programme is a regional network of centres, clubs, schools, and associate members that deliver positive athletics experiences across Aotearoa. 

Athletics New Zealand is also in the events business and alongside National Championships for Track and Field, Cross Country, Road Relays, Mountain and Trail Running (to name a few), Athletics New Zealand also owns and delivers the iconic Rotorua Marathon. 

Athletics New Zealand wants to lead ‘big shifts’ in athletics. 

These include transforming the sport from:

• A predominantly member-based sports model to a model that engages with and provides value to a much wider, more diverse range of participants, supporters, and followers. 
• A competitions ecosystem that is set up to mainly serve traditional sporting pathways, to a system that also delivers successful recreation and commercial events.
• A reliance on grant funding to self-generated commercial earnings and tripling Athletics New Zealand annual investment in development.

Role Summary:

To achieve its ambition, Athletics New Zealand wants to create content that, engages athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and fans. We want to be ‘on screens’ so that we build the profile of our sport. 

As the Content Creator, you will implement a ‘whole of sport’ annual content strategy and monthly content plans that are aligned to Athletics New Zealand’s integrated marketing plan. You will shoot and edit high quality video and photography content optimised for distribution across Athletics New Zealand’s social and digital platforms.

Your responsibilities will extend to leading Athletics New Zealand’s social media channels so that they engage and connect New Zealanders to athletics. Your role will be pivotal in driving value for Athletics New Zealand’s commercial and funding partners. 

Media relationships will also be key as you seek out interesting, content-led, newsworthy stories to feed to media that increase the profile for the sport. 

About You:

• Proven experience in developing and producing high-quality video content.
• Experience in managing social media business / professional accounts and working within strategic content marketing frameworks.
• Proven writing ability.
• Website management experience - ability to update and edit websites.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proven ability to strategically develop and manage a program or work, inclusive of planning, reporting, administration of resources and budget.
• Knowledge of applicable legislation including but not limited to: the Health and Safety at Work Act, the Children’s Act and the Privacy Act.

This role will require you to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, to accommodate event schedules.
