When it comes to delivering petroleum products on the coast of New Zealand, Silver Fern Shipping Ltd (SFSL) is the name that comes to mind. Until the closure of the only NZ Oil refinery SFSL had the only NZ Flagged Products Tankers sailing NZ waters and ports with Fuel oil, Jet oil, Diesel and Bitumen. Since then the company has diversified into the delivery of fuel oils for ships within Tauranga and Wellington ports plus owning a coastal cargo ships which carries Containers, Bulker cargoes (Grain, Phosphate fertilizers etc) etc. Previously operated in Wellington it moved offices to Christchurch in 2022.
Qualifications & Experience:
- High competency level in the use of computers, including MS Office software and Payroll or Human Resources packages.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Strong internal and external customer service ethics.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
- Knowledge of legislation in the areas of Payroll Policies or Maritime Awards.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; Flexibility.
- Must have valid Maritime Certificate of Competency qualifications and a background in shipping experience are essential requirements for this role.
Essential Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of 1.5 years of Experience on Vessel
- Must be qualified for the position applied for.
- Certificates of Competency or Proficiency must be valid.
- Must pass a Drug and Alcohol test and may be required to undergo a pre-employment medical.
- Must provide referee names and contacts.
Tasks & responsibilities
- • Co-ordinate the manning requirements of designated vessels. Processing of seagoing wages and the preparation/secure distribution of pay advice slips to shipboard personnel.
- To work closely with the Ship/Fleet Manager ensuring that their vessels are manned, shipboard personnel certified, the appropriate skill levels, training and complement in line with SFSL and industrial requirements;
- Adherence to SFSL company policy and procedures. Required to learn the Maritime Labour Convention requirement within the Management system.
- To co-ordinate the training of shipboard personnel by: Organising training course – mandatory Study leave Elective training as directed by the client; Liaising with Training Facilities and for course content Keeping records of courses attended.
- Other relevant administrative duties as requested within a given time frame.
