Buller District Council | Westport, New Zealand
Part-time | 20 Hours per week | Grade 9

Buller District Council is seeking a Customer Services Officer to be the welcoming face of Council and provide high-quality customer service and administrative support across the organisation.


This is a frontline role where every interaction counts, and where you’ll play a vital part in supporting our residents, ratepayers, and wider community.

What Will You Do? | Ka aha koe?



Key responsibilities will include:



  • Delivering exceptional customer service in person, by phone, and in writing

  • Responding to customer enquiries, requests, compliments, and complaints

  • Processing payments and performing cashiering duties accurately

  • Assisting the public with applications, forms, bookings, and general enquiries

  • Managing bookings for Council facilities and meeting rooms

  • Providing administrative and coordination support across Council teams

  • Registering applications and customer requests in Council systems

  • Supporting facility planning, funding applications, and asset management activities

  • Participating in team projects, training, and emergency management activities as required



Who Are You? | Ko wai koe?


We are looking for someone with:



Essential:



  • Proven experience in a customer service, reception, or call-centre environment

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities

  • Confidence using a range of computer systems and technology

  • A calm, professional approach to conflict resolution and challenging situations

  • A positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic



Desirable:



  • Experience working in a local government or public sector environment

  • Familiarity with administrative or cashiering functions

  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and compliance

  • Ability to empathise and communicate effectively with diverse communities
