Job Description - Diesel Mechanic

The Opportunity


We’re looking for an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our Timaru crew in a permanent, full-time role, working a minimum of 40 hours per week.



You’ll be working on a wide range of heavy vehicle brands including Volvo, MAN, Scania, BCI and Mitsubishi, carrying out both proactive and reactive maintenance. The role includes COF inspections, day-to-day servicing, maintenance and repairs on diesel and petrol motors, as well as other fleet vehicles where required.

 You’re comfortable working independently, follow instructions, and have strong written and spoken English.


You’re confident servicing vehicles, carrying out repairs, and diagnosing faults, with a solid understanding of Waka Kotahi requirements and regulations. You also have a genuine interest in working on buses.



Your Skills



  • NZQA Level 4 Heavy Automotive Qualification or equivalent experience

  • Current NZ Driver Licence (Class 1 required, Class 2–4 preferred)

  • Candidates with EV training or qualifications - on lite or heavy vehicles will be prioritised.

  • Reliable and mechanically minded

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Health and safety focused

  • Physically capable of lifting up to 25kg

  • Tech savvy with a positive, enthusiastic attitude
