The Todd Energy Aquatic Centre, located in New Plymouth, is a vibrant community facility offering a wide range of aquatic activities and amenities. Featuring an Olympic-sized swimming pool, dedicated diving pool, wave pool, sauna and spa area, it caters to swimmers of all ages and skill levels. The centre provides swim lessons, aqua fitness classes, and competitive training programmes; supporting health, fitness, recreation, and water safety across the community. With its welcoming atmosphere and diverse facilities, the Todd Energy Aquatic Centre is a valued destination for families, regular swimmers and fitness users, and casual visitors alike.


 


 


The Opportunity | Te āheinga


We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Duty Lifeguard to dive into our team! This role involves ensuring the safety of all patrons, supervising pool activities, and assisting with daily operations of the aquatic centre. You will be an integral part of our senior team, providing leadership to the Assistant Duty Lifeguard and Lifeguards and contributing to a safe and welcoming environment. Join a supportive team passionate about water safety, community wellbeing and delivering exceptional customer experiences.


 


You'll need to be flexible and available to work on a rotating roster between 5:00am and 7:30pm, including 2 out of every 3 weekends. Early birds and weekend warriors - this one's for you!


 


 


Key Responsibilities | Ngā haepapa matua



  • Ensure health and safety is maintained through actively supervising all activities within the centre that meet industry standards and respond to any incidents and emergency situations.

  • Perform water chemical tests to ensure quality of the pool water.

  • Assist with the identification of maintenance requirements.

  • Leadership and mentoring to other lifeguards.

  • Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation.


 


 


Essential Skills and Experience | Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako



  • Hold a current Comprehensive First Aid and a Pool Lifeguard Practicing certificate.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • A current Swimming Pool Water Treatment qualification is an advantage but not essential.

You can expect to start in this permanent, full-time role with a salary of between $67,394 – 70,324.
