Job Description - Duty Roster Coordinator - Auckland




  • Excellent learning opportunity with career progression opportunities  

  • Shift work with rosters planned in advance to allow work-life balance

  • Full time, permanent (40 hours) 24/7 rotating shift pattern – 12-hour shifts  

  • Training rate starting at $36.92 per hour increasing once qualified to $37.93  


  


Position Description


 


He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role: 
As a Duty Roster Coordinator, you’ll play a critical role at the centre of KiwiRail’s operations. You’ll be responsible for coordinating rosters for Locomotive Engineers, Terminal, and Container Terminal teams, ensuring our network runs safely and efficiently. 


You’ll: 



  • Manage and maintain staff rosters to meet operational and safety requirements 

  • Respond to roster changes, absences, and unexpected challenges in real time 

  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times 

  • Resolve roster-related queries quickly and effectively 

  • This is a fast-paced, problem-solving role where no two shifts are the same—and where you can leave work behind at the end of each shift

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and can stay calm under pressure: 



  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal 

  • A positive, solution-focused mindset 

  • Ability to adapt quickly and show resilience 

  • Excellent attention to detail 

  • Experience in roster coordination (preferred) 

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Holidays Act, Rest and Meal Breaks Amendment Act) is advantageous
