Rotorua has a population of about 55,000 and is located in the centre of the North Island 60 kilometres south of Tauranga and 105 kilometres south-east of Hamilton. It is surrounded by several roads, a railway line and an airport. Lake Rotorua is the largest of a group of 17 lakes in the area. The city of Rotorua is located on the southern shore of the lake. The lake offers many recreational activities such as fishing, boating and kayaking. The area is further an excellent place for hiking and cycling.

The position is vacant at a major hospital in the region, which has a position for an endocrinologist in the Department of Internal Medicine. The region is experiencing rapid growth in population and diversity, making it a challenging position.

On behalf of the above hospital, we are looking for an internal medicine specialist, with an interest in endocrinology. The position is full-time, alternating between home visits and providing care in the hospital.

The suitable candidate will work in the department of internal medicine, where you will have the responsibility to contribute to the growing department and ensure its adequacy. Besides working in the department, where a diverse patient population requires care, you will also have home visits. These are mainly with patients who are in the last stage of life, or have a condition that greatly shortens their lifespan. In addition, you may be asked for help at clinics in the region or at a hospice.

To apply, you must be able to register with the Medical Council of New Zealand. For this, it is important that you are proficient in English and can also provide care in this language. Previous experience as an internal medicine specialist is important, and affinity with endocrinology is desirable. You will mainly work in the hospital, and also encounter acute situations. Previous experience with this is also desirable for this. Finally, there are also young medical students working here who are in the final stages of their studies. Here, you will support them and be responsible for part of their training.
