Engineering Manager

Our customers use bioprocessing to do things like: invent new therapies to combat disease, make new biomaterials to solve the environmental crisis, and produce essential chemicals cleanly — and we provide them with tools to automate the design, execution, and analysis of all that amazing work!

What you will do

You will be leading our analytics team, responsible for data management, visualization and presentation to support enterprise customers. We are also adding advanced data science capabilities and introducing AI to automate workflows for our users. As player-coach manager, you will be involved in all levels of team leadership, planning, and prioritization, as well as writing code.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction: Apply technology pragmatically and deliberately, focusing on long-term progress while also solving make-or-break crises.

• Lead and mentor: Grow your engineers by sharing your experience and advice and building high-trust relationships.

• Be the voice of engineering: Represent the interests of engineering and inject the engineering perspective into critical decisions across the company.

• Explore and exploit: Trust yourself to take on hard, ambiguous problems of high importance to the company, and run with them.

• Be the team’s glue: Do the necessary, but often invisible, tasks to keep the team moving forward and shipping its work.

• Write software: You will still get to write some code, plus read a ton of the team’s code.

Preferred qualifications

• Previous experience at a high-growth tech company.

• Experience in biology, with a preference for synthetic biology or fermentation (nice to have - not required!).

• Infrastructure: Terraform IaC hosted on AWS.

• Frontend: Next.js with TypeScript and TailwindCSS hosted on Vercel.

• Collaboration tools: GitHub, Linear, Slack, Notion.
