Events Lead

Create events that delight, connect, and inspire. 

MOTAT is on the lookout for an Events Lead to design and deliver major public events that bring our collections, stories, and spaces to life. In this role, you’ll lead the development, planning, and delivery of all key events in the Public Programmes calendar, from initial concept through to onsite delivery, including one major event each month and a dynamic mix of weekend experiences that keep visitors coming back. 

You’ll join a passionate and creative Public Programmes team, working closely with team members across Visitor Experience and the wider MOTAT whānau, all with a shared purpose of putting visitors at the heart of everything we do. You’ll also take ownership of the operational side of events, coordinating logistics, supporting the Visitor Services team, and ensuring each event runs smoothly on the day. 

He kōrero mōu | About you  

You’re an experienced events professional who loves bringing ideas to life and making things happen. You’re calm under pressure, enjoy working with lots of moving parts, and take real pride in creating experiences that feel seamless for visitors.  

You’ll bring  

• At least three years’ experience in event management, including large-scale events and/or events across complex venues. 

• Proven ability to work to fixed timelines, juggle multiple priorities, and maintain strong attention to detail. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated project management and planning capability. 

• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive working relationships with people at all levels. 

• A high level of computer literacy, including confident use of Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel). 

• A current full driver’s licence and the ability to drive a manual vehicle. 

• An event management qualification (preferred). 

• Experience with Tessitura CRM and Artifax venue and event management software (desirable but not essential).

This is a permanent, full-time role working Sunday to Thursday, with some evening and additional weekend work  to support event delivery.
