Job Description - Executive Producer - Podcasts

THE OPPORTUNITY: The Executive Producer – Podcasts will be responsible for helping to execute the day-to-day operations of the podcast strategy for NZME alongside the Content Director and other producers. This includes the portfolio of NZME audio brands, including iHeartRadio NZ. This person will work on the output and planning of world leading podcast content, driving the development process of original podcasts and making sure all current podcasts maintain the highest standards. This includes evaluation of category, identifying talent, concept and creative execution, as well as business matters such as deals with key stakeholders.

We’re looking for a collaborative, detail-oriented and organised Executive Producer with a strong background in audio production to assist in the content strategy, connecting with the wider industry and providing mentorship to the team. The Executive Producer’s overall goal should be to work with talent to bring out the best ideas and allow them to create the most engaging podcasts. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • You will work with the Content Director - iHeartRadio to develop and produce podcast ideas that align with the overall content strategy.
  • You will exercise excellent creative and business judgement, especially in spotting the potential in ideas.
  • Build and nurture relationships with creators, directors, producers, sound designers, production houses, artist management and the creative community.
  • Contribute and implement fresh ideas to keep content exciting and innovative, including the development of themes, formats and concepts for upcoming episodes.
  • Provide notes about development materials such as concepts and scripts and edits in post-production.
  • Partner with internal teams including production and business operations, marketing, legal and licensing on the development, launch, production and evolution of the show.
  • Provide ongoing creative direction to internal teams, external production companies and other key stakeholders.
  • Create plans for how a new show or season will look, sound, be structured, and promoted across all available channels.
  • Handle day-to-day production tasks, including (but not limited to): Set deadlines, clearly communicate those deadlines and keep the team on track, working toward goals.
  • Pitch episode ideas to the Content Director - iHeartRadio, and handle all pre-interview, interview, reporting, recording, and writing of stories and scripts.

ABOUT YOU:

  • 5+ years’ experience producing entertainment shows. (At least some of that in audio production)
  • A pop culture fanatic who is passionate about staying on top of what’s happening in the entertainment, pop culture and wider world.
  • A leader who enjoys working with a team of diverse creatives, helping them to grow, develop and be their best selves.
  • A person who loves taking the seed of an idea, then developing and polishing it and teasing out the best bits to make it captivating.
  • An excellent communicator and enthusiastic collaborator who can work with a range of personalities and partners.
  • Strong ability to articulate and write for creative concepts and to autonomously own projects from start to finish.
  • Ability to manage team work load.

You'll bring creativity:

  • You have a deep love for podcasts, entertainment, opinion and comedy.
  • You’ll have an innate ability to spot a compelling and unique audio story, and structure it both editorially and technically, to make a compelling listen and strive to push the boundaries of digital audio and how we deliver these products.

Your technical skills:

  • Demonstrated experience developing stories and creating high quality audio.
  • A knowledge of technical production process, including the ability to record audio, utilise editing software such a protools or adobe audition to create initial edits and the ability to communicate effectively with technical producers about the postproduction process.
  • A good understanding of social media platforms and radio channels to help promote content is important.
