Position Overview
Due to exciting business expansion, IMG is seeking a proactive Fabricator/Welder Leading Hand to join our Devonport client’s facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong welding and fabrication background with leadership experience. You’ll oversee a team, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. Responsibilities include monitoring job progress, ensuring staff have necessary materials, tools, and information, and meeting deadlines as directed by the Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise a team of fabricators and welders, ensuring productivity and safety on-site.
Fabricate and assemble metal components and structures from blueprints, to ensure precise cutting, welding, and fitting
Work with the Weld Shop Manager to fully understand work plans and job requirements for the day and allocation of resources.
Conduct inspections of welded surfaces and structures to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
Provide training and mentorship to welders and fabricators, ensuring they adhere to best practices.
Coordinate the daily tasks of the fabrication team to meet project deadlines and ensure efficient workflow.
Monitor the condition of welding equipment and tools, ensuring proper maintenance and functionality.
Enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
Communicate with project managers and other departments to ensure that project requirements and timelines are met.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a Fabricator Welder with leadership or supervisory experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team to achieve project goals.
Relevant welding certifications and qualifications are highly desirable.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and lift heavy objects as required for welding and fabrication.
Strong focus on precision, quality, and safety in all aspects of work.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to adapt to changing schedules and work varying hours as required.
