Ka Pai Kai Aotearoa is a social enterprise which provides tamariki affordable healthy lunch options in schools within the Bay of Plenty region.  Our mission is to nourish the minds of our future generations. We do this by delivering government funded healthy and delicious school lunches, fresh to order each day across multiple sites. 

About the role

As we continue to expand, we seek a Food Production Manager based in Rotorua, who can provide leadership and management of our Rotorua site and team. This is a perfect opportunity for a talented individual who is ready to take the next step in their career.  The role of Food Production Manager is to ensure Ka Pai Kai Aotearoa always provides healthy, wholesome, nutritious meals to our Tamariki and from time to time the wider community, by adhering to MOE guidelines, developing & maintaining SOP, effective communication & collaboration at all levels of the business.

This role will see you:

  • Has experience running a team
  • Provide technical expertise and support to all kitchen employees.
  • Develop, maintain & advise on standard operational procedures, health & safety processes, food safety (HASSAP) & employee wellbeing in all kitchens. 
  • Ensure the SOPs include accurate recipes, methods of cookery with photos of all food produced.
  • Assist by communicating new food ideas within given time frames when developing term menus.
  • Maintain relevant business stock levels. Ensure timely communication of surplus stock, have a solutions-based approach to surplus items.
  • Competent with dynamic rostering, wage & food cost calculations. Actioning these in tandem with business trends and demands.
  • Advise & action site repairs and maintenance. Communicate R&M issues when required.
  • Provide immediate remedy to any negative feedback from schools to ensure KPKA standards of food quality & delivery.
  • Advise of any role number changes and ensure accurate numbers are provided to our finance team for charging purposes.
  • Clearly communicate with the logistics manager to ensure delivery of meals to schools & community groups is completed in a timely manner. 
  • Establish & maintain competency levels across all employees in your kitchen production team by initiating individual training plans & KPIs.
  • Uphold and promote the Kaupapa of healthy eating by having a supportive & strong organizational wide culture, based on traditional values of manaakitanga and whanaungatanga
  • Complete daily, weekly tasks as requested during your rostered shift.
  • By mutual agreement able to work across various KPKA sites as required.
  • Ensure compliance of all Health and Safety requirements.
  • Identify risks and work with service delivery manager to mitigate or remove them.
  • Develop & maintain internal audit functions using MOE guidelines of Service quality & delivery.

About you

To be considered for this role you will need to have:

  • Three -five years proven experience in a production catering operation 
  • Experience managing in a tikanga Māori values-based framework.
  • Business expertise 
  • Able to work with diverse groups throughout the community.
  • Full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • First aid certificate
  • Food safety and hygiene qualifications.
  • Recruitment and onboarding new staff
  • Contract negotiation
  • Establishment of optimal production set up.
