Job Description - Foodbank Kaimahi

Christchurch City Mission supports people facing hardship with practical help, advocacy and care across food support, housing, addiction recovery, learning and development, and wraparound services.

About the role


This is a permanent role, Monday - Friday, 34 hours per week 


 


We’re looking for someone who brings both practical capability and strong people skills to support the daily operation of our Foodbank warehouse and selfserve supermarket. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and central to creating a welcoming, dignified experience for the people we serve. 




  • Supporting to keep the warehouse and supermarket running smoothly each day 



  • Working confidently alongside volunteers and guiding them through tasks 



  • Maintaining tidy, organised spaces and staying on top of stock flow 



  • Supporting clients respectfully and calmly during busy periods 



  • Being part of a tight-knit team that relies on clear communication and reliability 


 


We’re a practical, supportive team that works closely together. The right person is someone who: 



  • Enjoys physical, hands-on work and stays steady under pressure 



  • Communicates clearly, works well with volunteers, and contributes positively to team culture 



  • Can switch between tasks quickly and stay organised in a dynamic environment 



  • Brings a mature, grounded approach to working with people from all walks of life 



  • Understands the Mission’s purpose and shows empathy while maintaining boundaries 


 


Essential skills & experience 



  • Experience in retail, warehouse, supermarket, or similar environments 



  • Confidence working with volunteers and supporting them through tasks 



  • Full driver licence -Forklift licence is an advantage 



  • Physically fit and comfortable with lifting 25+ kg's 

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
