Freeman & Grey - Head Chef - Full Time

The Role
We’re looking for a Head Chef to lead the kitchen at Freeman & Grey. This role is perfect for a hard‑working chef with sharp cooking skills, real leadership presence, and a commitment to high standards. If you thrive in a fast‑paced, upbeat Ponsonby environment, you’ll feel right at home here.

Key Responsibilities

• Completing ordering and stocktaking to plan and manage food costs


• Create rosters and managing wage costs


• Monitoring quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation


• Discussing food preparation issues with managers, kitchen and waiting staff


• Demonstrating techniques and advising on cooking procedures


• Preparing and cooking food to a consistently high standard


• Taking ownership of the food control plan and all team members understand the cleaning standards and processes within the kitchen


• Mentoring, training and development of your team to ensure they have a thorough understanding of how to complete their role


• Ensure all food is prepped and portion controlled prior to service to ensure no food prep is required to be completed during service


• Ensuring clear communication between the kitchen, front of house and head office

Skills, Experience & Qualifications Required

• NZQF Level 4 qualification (or higher) in cookery,


• at least 5 years of relevant industry experience,


• including proven experience in a senior kitchen leadership role

This level of skill is required to ensure safe food handling, consistent quality, and the ability to work independently in a high‑volume kitchen.
