Generation Technician (Mechanical) – Alexandra
Are you a qualified mechanical tradesperson looking for a hands-on role in New Zealand’s renewable energy sector?
Pioneer Energy Renewables is looking for a Generation Technician to join our Central generation team, based in Alexandra. This is a varied technical role supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of renewable energy and associated infrastructure across our portfolio.
You will work across operational plant, maintenance activities and improvement projects, applying your trade expertise to solve problems, respond to faults and help keep critical energy assets operating effectively.
The Role
Reporting to the Central Supervisor, you will provide mechanical and civil support for the operation, maintenance, repair and refurbishment of Pioneer Energy Renewables’ assets.
Your work may include hydroelectric and wind generation assets, thermal plant, irrigation schemes and associated infrastructure. You will work both independently and as part of a skilled team, with travel to operational sites required from time to time.
Key responsibilities include:
This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week, generally worked Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The position also requires participation in an on-call roster, including responding to operational issues outside standard working hours when required.
About You
You will be a practical and safety-focused tradesperson who enjoys fault-finding, technical problem-solving and working with operational plant. You will be comfortable taking ownership of your work, working independently at remote sites and contributing as part of a collaborative technical team.
You will bring:
Experience in hydro, wind or other forms of electricity generation would be an advantage. High-voltage, operating and switching, industrial controls, protection systems, project or commissioning experience would also be valuable.
Above all, we are looking for someone with strong technical foundations, sound judgement, a proactive approach and a willingness to continue learning.
