Glass Goose - Head Chef - Full Time

The Business

The Glass Goose Bar & Eatery lies at the top of a hidden staircase just off Federal Street. Mirroring a garden glass house, our secret rooftop bar is open from lunch until late. The contemporary yet casual eating and drinking space is a true oasis, tucked away from the city’s bustle. Our view of the sky tower is second to none and the perfect companion for one of our famous cocktails.

The Role

This is a Full-Time position of at least an average of 30 hours per week and a maximum of 60 hours per week. This role requires you to set an example in the kitchen with your exemplary cooking skills. It is ideal for an inspired, hard working individual, with a commitment to high standards. 

Your main responsibilities include:

• Completing ordering and stocktaking to plan and manage food costs


• Create rosters and managing wage costs


• Monitoring quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation


• Discussing food preparation issues with managers, kitchen and waiting staff


• Demonstrating techniques and advising on cooking procedures


• Preparing and cooking food to a consistently high standard


• Taking ownership of the food control plan and all team members understand the cleaning standards and processes within the kitchen


• Mentoring, training and development of your team to ensure they have a thorough understanding of how to complete their role 


• Ensure all food is prepped and portion controlled prior to service to ensure no food prep is required to be completed during service


• Ensuring clear communication between the kitchen, front of house and head office

The Pay

We're proud to offer a highly competitive pay rate of $35.00 to $45.00 per hour for this position. Skills / Experience

We are looking for an energetic, passionate and hard working candidate.

The ideal candidate will be someone with:

• A passion for food and providing experiences


• Excellent communication skills


• Strong leadership and culinary skills


• Energy and enthusiasm to share with your team


• Proven experience in a fast paced high end kitchen environment


• A relevant qualification at Level 2 or above of the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF); and/or at least 2 years of relevant experience
