Job Description - Global Head of Sales- Building Industry


Our client is an incredibly successful NZ business that has won accolades around the world for its focus on design and durability as well as sustainability. Crafted with respect from beginning to end, their products are harvested from renewable sources and verified as carbon negative. This is a tight knit team of people who are committed to the cause, but also enjoy a bit of fun.

This is a newly created sales leadership role and a key member of the Executive Team. You’ll be responsible for leading and managing the sales team based in NZ and offshore, to drive revenue growth, establish strategic partnerships, and meet sales targets. Your primary focus will be on overseeing the sales growth, developing business markets, nurturing a high performing team, and ensuring the alignment of sales strategy with the company’s overall objectives. Your role will include:

  • Strategy Development: Devise and execute sales strategies aligned with the company's objectives, overseeing the sales pipeline and fostering enduring relationships with stakeholders.
  • Market Development: Identify and explore new markets for potential business expansion opportunities.
  • Market Alignment and Optimization: Collaborate to monitor market pricing, optimize gross margins, allocate volumes across markets, and assess performance against metrics.
  • Informed Decision-making: Analyse market returns and identify new business expansion opportunities based on strategy effectiveness evaluations.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Inspire and guide the Sales Team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and setting performance metrics for excellence.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and nurture strong relationships with key stakeholders to drive business growth and retention.
We’re looking for an experienced sales leader who can get alongside a capable sales team and lift their commercial success through structure and sales disciplines. Ideally, you’ll have built your career in large corporates but prefer the faster, more agile world of less corporate environments. You are a charismatic leader with experience leading large teams, distributors and end users in the building industry in NZ and offshore. You’ll love the global aspect of this role, travelling to different countries and getting alongside your sales team and distributors to grow the business.
Your experience will include:
  • Proven track record in senior sales leadership roles within wood products or the wider construction industry.
  • Export sales management with a distributor network
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and experience dealing and selling to offshore markets.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of successfully leading and developing high-performing sales teams.
  • Strategic thinker with expertise in global value chain optimization and market expansion.
  • Proficiency in analysing market trends, evaluating sales data, and making data-driven decisions.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
