The Opportunity | Te āheinga

We’re looking for a motivated Graduate Landscape Architect to join our Strategic Planning team on a fixed-term contract through to February 2027, covering parental leave. This is an exciting chance to kick-start your professional journey while contributing to meaningful projects that shape the future of our District.

In this role, you’ll support the development, implementation and integrated planning of Council’s existing and future infrastructure. Your work will help inform spatial planning across both natural and built environments, ensuring our District grows in a way that is sustainable, well‑designed and community‑focused.

You’ll collaborate with planners, designers, engineers and community stakeholders, gaining hands-on experience across a variety of landscape and strategic planning initiatives. If you’re passionate about creating great places and ready to apply your academic knowledge to real‑world projects, this role offers an ideal opportunity to learn, grow and make a genuine impact.

Key Responsibilities | Ngā haepapa matua

• Assist the preparation, planning and design of master plans, spatial plans, structure plans and other related plans for Council’s existing and future infrastructure including parks and open spaces.


• Undertake stakeholder engagement as part of plan preparation with internal and external customers.


• Prepare projects briefs and design for the delivery of parks and open spaces projects.


• Provide design input, advice and recommendations into the consent processes and other development/growth projects.


• Support resource management planning processes, including GIS, e-planning, plan changes and resource consents.

Essential Skills and Experience | Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako

• Landscape Architect/Urban Design Tertiary Qualification


• Well-developed interpersonal skills and relationship engagement


• Experience in the planning and design of public places is desirable but not necessary (graduate position)

You can expect to start in this fixed-term, full-time role with a salary of between $76,621 - $82,579.
